Treasure Chest
Grade Level: K - 12
Equipment: Cones, Bean Bags(36), Hula Hoops (1 for each team) Rubber Animals: Fish (6) Monkey(4) Pig (3) Chicken (2)
Divide the students into least 4 teams. Place them in a large circle/square like the diagram to the right. In the middle of the circle start with all of the bean bags in the middle (worth 1 point each). Explain that they are pirates and they must try to collect as much gold as they can from the island in the middle. When the teacher says "go" one player from each team must run to the middle and bring back one bean bag and then tag the next player to go.When the teacher "stops" the activity each team counts their gold and the teacher marks down the amounts. Teams put all the items back and teacher starts another round. After 2 rounds add a new item (fish worth 2). I usually add a new item after ever 2 rounds. The last item I usually put in is a chicken and teams try ti place this item into another teams treasure chest because it takes away 2 points. Students can not take items out of their treasure chest.
Variation: Allow students to take items from other teams. Add a scooter to represent the pirate ship that each player must ride into the middle. Allow students to take items out of their treasure chest and put it into another teams.
